The world’s OLDEST intact shipwreck: A 2,400-year-old ‘Odysseus’ Greek trading vessel
- The Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project has been scouring the sea bed of the Black Sea
- The primary focus is to carry out geophysical surveys, but 67 ancient shipwrecks have also been found
- They are almost perfectly preserved due to the lack of oxygen in the Black Sea’s ‘dead zone’
- The ship’s design confirms the accuracy of a famous Greek vase showing Odysseus tying himself to a mast to avoid being tempted by sirens
