The 3 Best Types of Massages
Feeling stressed? Or maybe you have been working out hard. There are times in our life when we just need a massage. There are several types of massages to choose from, so you want to make sure that you are choosing the right one for your body.
Swedish Massage
This is one of the most popular types of massage and uses lotions and oils. They are typically offered at spas, wellness centers, and even gyms. Your therapist usually speaks with you ahead of time to discuss which areas are bothering you and that they should focus on.
First, they do start with broad strokes in all areas to loosen up the muscles and help you relax. Then, they start to dig into the problem areas using specific strokes such as long smooth strokes, kneading, rolling, or even small circular movements.
Did you know that using a CBD massage oil during your massages can actually heighten the experience? Before heading to your next Swedish massage, ask your masseuse if CBD oil is something they use or would be willing to try!
Hot Stone Massage
This is probably one of my favorite massages because your therapist uses hot stone to massage your body. The warm and smooth stones are placed on specific parts of the body. They also hold the stones while going through the massage process.
These hot stones help you relax better and can also help with muscle tension. Stones used during a hot stone massage are usually basalt, which is a volcanic rock so it heats very well.
Deep Tissue Massage
A deep tissue massage is not for the weak. This type of massage is designed to apply firm pressure along with slow strokes to really get into the deep layers of the muscles.
If you suffer from chronic pain, this is a great option for you. It is important to ALWAYS hydrate before and after a massage, but this is especially true for a deep tissue massage.
This is because your therapist is going so deep into the muscles, it is really breaking up the toxins in your body, which could dehydrate you. Even though a deep tissue massage seems extreme, it is actually very beneficial and can help you find the relief you need from pain.
