Fastest Howitzer in The World - Archer Artillery System
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on May 4th, 2016 @ 7:44PM

A very interesting system. In a perfect world, the Archer seems to be a far superior howitzer as compared to the M109A6 Paladin. I wonder if reality will be different. For example, how reliable is this system? Is there a great degree of maintenance required? Does it spend large amounts of time out of service? All unknown due to it being newly deployed

I also have questions about mobility across broken terrain, muddy conditions, or desert sand. No question the Archer is incredibly mobile on roads and hard surfaces, but wars aren't always fought in those conditions.

Finally, I wonder about crew and system survivability against counter battery and direct fire. I suppose the designers mitigated counter battery through mobility, but I wonder how it would hold up in an MLRS impact area.

Lars Andersen: a new level of archery
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 23rd, 2015 @ 9:13AM

It's kind of funny/sad that we live in an age where the average person has more access to information than at any other point in our history yet we really have no idea or appreciation of how things were actually done by our ancestors.

Kudos to this guy for becoming a master of a lost art. Sure it may not have a pragmatic benefit in this day and age, but if there was ever a major outage or disaster that impacted our way of life for more than a few days, I'd want this guy to be in my corner :)

How Japan Fell in Love With America’s Drones

Story - But they're sorry for WWII right? And believe it happened?

Hi Nebu,

It`s better to realize that the Japanese never ever regret what they did in WWII. If we went to Tokyo, we will find a kinda war criminal memorial temple which tons of old and young guys visiteveryday.Their Prime minister and other MPs will pay their respect to those warlords every year by visiting the temple or denoting. Just My own POV but they total deserve the N-Bombs.

Poland Develops World's First Stealth Tank (Poland??!)

This is Poland's PL-01 Stealth Tank. It will be "the world's first fully operational stealth tank when it goes into service in 2018" (if you exclude all the other stealth tanks that have already been developed in secret that the government hides from us). You think the US government doesn't have stealth tanks? We have such stealthy tanks we can't even remember where we parked them.

How Russia Built a Ship Too Big to Set Sail
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on February 18th, 2014 @ 6:25PM

GIzmodo

Not that it actually could leave. The Ural was so overwhelmingly large that there wasn't a pier in the Pacific big enough to dock it. As such, it had to be anchored just offshore with supplies and troops ferried out to it by smaller ships. The Ural proved so costly to operate—without even being deployed—that it was eventually converted into a floating barracks for naval officers before being decommissioned and scrapped in 2001.
