Windows Parental Controls?

Anyone recommend a good program to limit kids on the computer to X hours a day? The stupid parental controls only lets you pick blockout periods and not total hours per day.

I compared to the Nexus 7. Mine has way better resolution, but I like the overall package of his better. Now we can finally play 4 player ingress! haha.

M Bacon (age 4 and 7/12ths) managed to win herself a pink stuffed animal all by herself too. We told her not to do it but she didn't listen and won.

Irvine Youth Basketball (Grade 4)
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on February 27th, 2012 @ 1:07AM

2/26 - So we had our championship game today (Sunday) and our team lost by ONE F-ing POINT! One point was the difference between making history undefeated regular season and playoffs. So many times in the game one thing could have changed it all. The refs were great this time. No bad calls.

If I were to pick one reason we lost, they had this African American kid that scored like 20 points, steals, rebounds. I think they should evenly distribute the pro players like that on all the teams. Because for the last two games, it's one African American kid owning everyone. And it's even half white/black kids, both times. What is the NBA? 1 token white guy per team, a few Asians. Anyway.

Our team was all Asian including both coaches except for one giant white kid as our center.

It was pretty heart breaking losing by one point. I suppose that's sports. We did win #1 in the regular season and got a trophy for that. The team that beat us didn't even do that.

It's really sad we can't keep the same team each year. I really like all the players and the coaches and parents. I'll likely never see that again. It's really sad how they mix up the teams each time in all the sports.

This weekend I got stuck organizing videos and pictures. I got 0 gaming and spent about 6 hours burning discs and organizing and creating videos for the team.

We had a team party tonight and it was the only time I ever genuinely care about everyone. That's unlikely to happen again. The kids all were using their team skills on a claw machine. They got something like 20-25 stuffed animals out of it and everyone was cheering for them. It's interesting how they took their competitive nature to the game machine haha.

Kid's TV/Computer/Game Time
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on July 20th, 2011 @ 5:16PM

This is the one I ended up getting for the computer for $20. It works pretty well, I tried it for a month. The only problem is when his mom logs in for him and let's him play anyway avoiding the time limits.

For the TV I got Bob for $70. It works really well. I had to reprogram it for my low power TV but once we did that, it's worked great. My only problem there is the mom logging in for him to get extra time.

Now the problem is how do you manage time between the computer and the TV. I just give like say 2 hours per TV, 2 hours per Computer. Unfortunately you can't combine the two. That's too much of course but you can set it at whatever you want. It has helped cut down a bunch. You can also pick amount of TV or Computer per week.

There's still no monitoring for internet. I'll probably get NETNANNY once that becomes a problem. It worked pretty well, It just had no way to limit time on the computer, only time on the internet. There's also the ITOUCH time which becomes a problem too because the kid just keeps eternally switching to the next thing that isn't banned. Netnanny is making a mobile edition you could use also. There might be some parental control apps for his itouch too.

My chick is babysitting these 2 kids of a teacher M-F. These kids are always super sick with nasty sicknesses. So they've got me sick 4 times. This lady brings her kids over to be baby sat even when they're coughing like crazy and have green snot pouring out. So here in Las Vegas I feel sooo sick. They've got my kids sick 3-4 times too. I don't think it's worth it. We're making some decent $$ per week baby sitting them.

City Soccer League
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on September 21st, 2010 @ 3:07PM

I really hate the kid's city soccer league.

  • They have games at like 8 a.m. on SATURDAY. Geez, thanks for letting us sleep in. Our kid has a bunch of games at that time. What a nightmare.
  • They change the teams up every year so the kid has no chance of ever getting to know anyone long term. Did you finally make some friends? Sorry you'll never see them again.
  • Changing up the team makes sure if you ever figure out and learn some teamwork, you'll lose it next year.
  • They don't keep score. Way to encourage winners and losers. Everyone wins, why show up. That's the lamest part. It's just about fun? Then why dress up, have uniforms and refs.
  • The refs call a bunch of stuff that interrupts the game, but if you're not keeping score, who cares?? Teach them the rules then teach them score doesn't matter.
  • You have to pay extra money and do extra steps to be included on the playoffs. I thought we weren't keeping score? Last year our team missed the playoffs for whatever reason, despite not keeping score at all.
  • Seriously retarded uniforms. You should see what some of these kids have to wear. Our kid faced the brown turds on Saturday. Another team was neon yellow with neon yellow socks. Last week's team looked like red and white stripped candy canes.

==> Keep score but stop counting if it gets to crazy levels. Get someone who isn't in the village people making the uniforms. They're not in a gay parade. Let people keep their teams so they can make friends. Don't have lame requirements for the playoffs, base it on score? (BOGGLE). No games before 9am.

i think the point of not letting them keep the same teams is so that it`s not like a team of really good kids grouping up all the time

not keeping score is worse than everyone gets a ribbon day in my opinion

    - 2010-09-21 18:52:00

I'd hate to grow up as a kid these days. Everything is so watered down and politically correct. It's more about appeasing the misguided notions of overprotective parents rather than letting kids just be.

You have to pay extra money and do extra steps to be included on the playoffs.

That's just terrible. I can't even begin to grasp the logic behind that.

It's kinda cool. They created this whole city for kids inside this building (same as my old work building). They got a grocery store, restraunt, police station, dance stage, etc. It was ok for about 4 hours but I can't see going there 10-5 p.m.. They had a cool way of kicking people out. They start a big parade where everyone lines up and dances their way out of the place.

If you don't have kids, ignore...

Update: 5/25 - I got the 3 Seasons of Backyardigans. I hate that show but my daughter likes it. It seems to have a positive message but the show blows compared to Yo Gabba... I also couldn't find Tiny Planet at all.

    Original Post
Anyone remember the Aquabats from the 1990s? They were a Ska band along with No Doubt, Save Ferris, and a few other famous ones. Well one of the guys on there decided to create a kid's show on Nick. Yo Gabba Gabba

I wouldn't recommend it for adults but there's a FEW funny parts in there that's even funny for adults. There's also one performance from the Aquabats. Otherwise it's a REALLY great show for teaching little kids (age 2-5+). Even some lessons apply to my 8 year old. Every show there's 3+ lessons and they review them at the end. Most of it applies.

Thanks to Katan for recommending it.

The Jack Black episode is one of the best...we keep it on the DVR and my son watches it at least once a day. That one and the "Party in my tummy" are his favs.

If you don't have small kids, then this info is useless to you. Unless you want the rubber ducky song. I was surprised to see how many stars there are on there.

Remember that one gross puke scene?

Well the baby got sick a few days ago. She hurled a poltergist amount on her mom. Then on her changing table and then in the bed. None on me thankfully. Then HotLikeMe took her to the emergency room. The next day she only did it a few times. Last night she hurled in her crib, on the bed, again on the bed. Her brother comes in and says he's sick, lays down, and a while later hurls on the bed too. I'm like you have to be kidding, two different kids hurl on the same bed on the same night? I went to the kids room and used his bed to sleep.

I'm not sure where they all got this sick. Disneyland maybe or his dumb school.

    See what you're missing?

Update Today I got what they got. I made it two hours of work before folding after many bathroom visits. I still had to sign the loan docs tho. So I would go to the bathroom and fill the forms. Then come back. Then I had to go to the bank to get the $ and I'm throwing out the side of the van. :( :( :(
