Federal Government Shutdown Day 1 (Except Congress): Hows your day different?
Posted by: Hammer on October 1st, 2013 @ 3:21PM
As everyone probably knows, as of 12:00A on October 1st, 2013, the Government officially shutdown except for essentially services, automatic services and Congress.
Back in 1996, when the Government shutdown under Bill Clinton due to the actions of Newt Gingrich, the average citizen noticed zero to no change in their day to day lives over the 26 days the Government was shutdown.
I'd like to use this thread almost as a time capsule of what affects this current shutdown actually DOES have on people's lives this time around.Source: Studio Brief

Feds Steal $35K From Small Grocer's Bank Account Despite Finding "No Violations" To Justify the Grab
Posted by: Hammer on September 27th, 2013 @ 12:23AM
Schott's Market, in Fraser, Michigan, was robbed in January of this year. Unfortunately for Terry Dehko and his daughter, Sandy, who own the place, the thieves are government agents in the emply of the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS doesn't even allege that the Dehkos committed a crime to justify cleaning out their bank account using civil asset forfeiture—they even sent the Dehknos a letter clarifying that “no violations [of banking laws] were identified.” So, why the mugging? The feds just don't like the way the grocers have been depositing money in their bank account. Really.COMMENTS (12) | GOVERNEMENT GOVERNMENT | DIGG
