And this is supposed to come as a shock? Only if you're super-naive. At least w/ google they are straight up and (relatively) honest about the data they mine, and who/what they sell it to/use it for.

So my Droid X lasted ok for a year and 3-4 months or so. Now it's a total piece of shit.

What a piece of shit. Maybe upgrade in August? Not sure what's out there. I liked the Droid 4 keyboard.

Looks awesome - but it's basically for people too lazy to pull their phone out of their pocket. haha. I think I want one of these if it works with my phone. I doubt I'll get it tho.

I just don't video chat with internet people. If I was single and it was a hot chick on the other side, sure.

But this weekend it suddenly was useful. We used Google video chat on our laptop to talk to that lady's family in Oregon. 4 kids. It was funny. It took them a while to set up the mic so we called and used a phone for the audio. But once it all worked, it was super cool. But after only 20 mins or so we ran of out things to talk about. I think it would be great for grand parents to see the grand kids more often.

Xbox 360 has sold 50 million consoles since launch, five years ago. The iPad has sold considerably faster than the X360, although it’s not a dedicated games platform so you can’t assume all owners are going to want to play games. I think it’s safe to say it’s a viable gaming platform at this point.

Tables sales were 21 million units in 2010 and are expected to grow to 168 million in 2014 (Yankee Group). I think the largest dif. In phones and tablets is available processing power. This is huge for entertainment purposes. It will be nice to have options that do not require a carrier service as well. Screen size, battery life, available applications, convenience, etc.

Mobile handsets topped 1.35-1.45 billion units in 2010, w/ smartphones reaching 270-280 million units (Digitimes). China had 850 million subscribers to mobile communications in Nov 2010 (MIIT). These are good numbers considering all things going on in the world today.

Update It's so lame that now they want every phone to have a $9.99 plan. Someone got a phone for one kid, then they tried to buy a second for another of their kids and by that time the same phone required a $9.99 plan while the first didn't.

They're making all the decent phones now require the data plan whether you want it or not. They put all their CRAP phones now as the non internet phones. It's horrible. It's just like the airlines and their $15-25 bag fee. They force you into it.

Also, do you think if you get a $29.99 unlimited data plan and they remove it, would they let you keep it at that price? Or would they downgrade you. If you can keep your unlimited, doesn't it make sense to get an unlimited one NOW before we lose it?

So funny. Looks like the same people that brought us the Tiger Woods animation. If you are following the iphone stories EVERYTHING in that video makes perfect sense.

Update 2 - Rehooked up my old phone LG 8600. It has the same problem it did when I got rid of it, 0 reception at my house for some reason. It works if I leave my house though. It's battery life is also HORRIBLE, lasting only a little while, few calls before it goes down to 2 bars.

I was thinking maybe my chick upgrades her phone then I take her old phone.

I spent about 20 mins playing with the Droid X. I really like it and could get it for $150 but the size is SO HUGE. Also I think I spend about 0 time away from my computer so I think it would just sit around and I'd never use it. Also I was sad to learn you need the $29 data plan PER PERSON/Phone. So $60 for the both of us. Lame.

Update - Took my phone to Verizon and they could easily tell it got wet. So they want $50 to replace it. I have an old phone I can use instead but I think it has really bad reception problems. I don't know what else to do, the Droid X is out but I don't know if I'll use it enough to justify the $720 for 2 years data. Also I want the iphone4 if it comes out on Verizon. ;( :( :(

Now my wet phone does all kinds of screwed up things. I could still make calls on it without seeing what I'm dialing up until late afternoon. It was sitting there blinking + super heating up last night.

Original Post I got my phone wet and now the screen doesn't work. They don't even make the phone anymore. I THINK I have a phone replacement plan. Last time this happened the phone worked again after a day. I'm hoping it starts working again but a white screen might be the end of it. There's a 4 page thread that says people slam it against a table to fix it but I tried that and that didn't work. The same thing didn't work for my 2 first gen IPODs which also are stuck and won't respond as well. :(

What's funny is my phone can still receive calls and I was able to dial blindly without seeing the numbers.

I think I'll wait for Iphone 4 on Verizon.

Any good? - I can't upgrade until Nov anyway though. I don't like the idea of $360 more per year for internet.
