Today's Politics (BUMP for discussion)
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on January 23rd, 2017 @ 3:04PM

So my whole facebook is full of people I know who went to the women's march. And I think most of us are for treating women as equals and women's rights etc. But the twist is, the whole marches seemed to just be about ANTI-TRUMP. If that's the case, uh what do they ever hope to accomplish. Obviously 33M+ in American are mad that Hillary lost + however many that were too lazy to vote. Even that doesn't matter because the race is still over. So all we learned really is a lot of people like women, including most of the trump voters. haha. EVERYONE LOVES WOMEN! "Our voices will be heard." They were already heard throughout the election process. They also rejected any "pro-life" women. Not that I am for that but still.

If people were really FOR women's right's they'd be mad at Hillary and Obama from taking money and support from all these muslim nations who really MISTREAT women. They are the ones that they should be after. Those are the ones abusing women. so true. Organizer For DC Women’s March, Linda Sarsour Is Pro Sharia Law with Ties To Hamas

Too bad the women at the marches don`t care about the 22.5 million women/baby girls that have been ABORTED and wiped out. What about those womens` rights? Shame on Ashley Judd, Madonna, and the whole lot of them....... A civilized nation is gradually understanding the barbaric nature of abortion and what it really does..... MURDER CHILDREN and deprive them of life, liberty, and any chance at happiness.

Amazing turn out and say what you will about women, but they know how to fucking organize.

That said, I don't think this march is going to do shit moving forward. You're right, what do they hope to accomplish and where are they going next? The march at this point now seems like a bunch of women gathering together to complain instead of making any kind of difference.

I will say that in cases of rape or risk to the mother's health, she should have a right to choose.

However, in any other circumstance...she already chose. Babies don't just magically appear inside of you. You choose actions that cause them to appear, whether you want them or not.

The whole "Right to Choose" movement is really a "Right to Choose to Undo a Choice" movement, which I find silly.

Another thing that I funny is out of the millions of women who are marching it's people like Madonna and Ashley Judd, people who are millionaires several times over, who are getting all of the coverage and attention. The most un-relatable people getting to shout their message out, over the millions of average women who the march is supposed to be about.

And those millions of women nodding in agreement because you know, a celebrity said it.

I will say in cases of rape

So it's about punishing people for choosing to have sex? Why do you care if people fuck?

That's so dumb. You want to force people to have babies?

The people here are so down with God it's sickening.

I have a hard time supporting a movement that thinks that butchering a baby should not only be legal, but be celebrated.

It`s always interesting that the same people that are usually very anti-abortion are at the same time anti anything that actually reduces abortion like better access to birth control, better (not abstinence only) sex ed. And also opposed to things that help out the very people who end up with children from their unwanted pregnancies.

It`s really about - punishment for recreational sex, especially for women. They act like they care so much about that precious life inside the mother, at least until it comes out, then it`s on its fucking own.

For the record, I'm not religious at all. In fact, I find religion to be total nonsense. I'm only interested in accountability. I'm not asking people to never have sex, just to be smart about it. There are people use the abortion as a fallback for poor judgment.

The problem is abortion is not the cure for promiscuity. If they want to "do the deed", let them. But if you keep aborting as a means of birth control, that is where I don't feel it is right, especially if my tax money pays for it. If they don't want a kid so bad, they should get sterilized.

If you say, "it is the mans responsibility too", well get him "fixed" too. If people flat out stop having kids they don't want, it is good for the environment anyway (that is, after all, another hot topic with them).

I am not going to state some phony facts about the percentage of abortions from rape/incest vs passionate night of sex, but the last I heard, it was heavily weighted to the latter. To me that just seems wrong.

Now these celebrities, they make enough money to fund tons of abortions. Go set up funds and stop trying to make tax payers pay for it. If you want to kill off late term babies, please use your own money.

I so wish I could have ordered this hat so I could wear it to a march...

Awesome Hat

If I could have rigged the tip with silly string all the better. I could have bowed to the ladies with the pussy hats.

Several things to unpack here.

1. According to CDC statistics abortion rate for women ages 15-44 was 1.25% in 2013. That doesn't seem like widespread use of abortion for retroactive contraception to me. We've probably got better things to do than spend our energy rigidly regulating this activity.

2. There are some people out there who have no concept of prevention of pregnancy, and others who don't have easy access to birth control. It isn't necessarily their fault--maybe they're dirt poor, maybe they haven't had much of a social support model, maybe the sex ed that they've gotten has failed them. We've all seen the stories. It is all well and good to say "well if they don't want the baby they shouldn't have sex" but if you expect that to change their behaviour you aren't being very realistic... that's like saying "screw seat belts, if you don't want to get injured in your vehicle don't participate in an accident".

3. If the the individual is just too stupid, uninformed, or unable to control themselves to use birth control, we need to be asking ourselves what public good their baby--very possibly not supportable by the parents and/or a candidate to grow up in the same circumstances and following the same behaviour patterns--serves. Do we need more kids like this? Not sure we do!

I have a hard time supporting a movement that thinks that butchering a baby should not only be legal, but be celebrated.

I think most people who support availability of abortions aren't celebrating about them.

If you eat like a pig all your life and get diabetes, should you be allowed to use insulin? Or is that dodging your accountability?
