Amazon Prime: The Man in the high castle
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on December 28th, 2016 @ 1:12PM

I asked on facebook about any good Amazon Prime shows. Please post here if you have any recommendations.

The Man In the High Castle

What if the Nazis and Japanese won World War II? I'm a huge World War II buff. I've read books, read online articles, watched tons of movies. There were so many places in WWII where it felt like we could have lost.

This show explores the possibility of a world where the Nazis won. The show is based on a book.

I made it through both seasons in only a few days. I really enjoy the show and hope for more episodes.

=The Nazis were at the forefront of technology. They had all sorts of amazing creations in WWII. If left to explore them, what would they have come up with?
=The US grabbed the Nazi scientists (except those who died?) and used them for rockets, space, jets, and more. But what if they stayed and developed things for the Nazi.
=How would Japan/Nazi get along if they won the war. It was interesting to see that in this show, with Japan at a disadvantage and bowing down to the Nazis with better technology.
=If America fell would there be anyone else ?
=What would America be like after losing that war?
=After WWII we saw Japan shift into being high tech and a much cooler people. Would that still happen if they won?
=What technology that America developed in 1945-1962 wouldn't we see?
=What racial atrocities would the Nazi continue if allowed. If they killed off everyone that they wanted to kill off, who would be left?
=The Japanese atrocities were forgiven by the US and never really punished. What would they do, if they continued after 1945.
=Who would get the atomic bomb first and use it?

Cons =It's got me angry at the Japanese/Germans again. hah
=Don't go trying to collect memorabilia for the show!

SPOILERS in the comments

=Strangely there seems to be a side storyline of alternative universes going on which is getting pretty old with shows like Fringe, Flash, etc, doing it too much.
=Guy(s) who can go between the realities
=What's the ultimate goal here? To fix the current reality (Nazi won) or to travel /fix the current reality to be the original reality (USA won)
=Interesting to see how they perfected racial purity (not that it's OK).

"The Japanese atrocities were forgiven by the US and never really punished."

2 bombs = punishment (or were you talking about the show?)

The Man in the High Castle was very interesting. When we won WWII, we gave the countries back to the people. We could have occupied Japan and Germany, but we didn't. We have bases there and a treaty, but we didn't take over. I do believe that Hitler would have occupied the USA if he had won, that's what dictators do. My husband is a real history buff so he was also fascinated by this show. The intro song is eerie.

It's sort of a sci-fi too with the alternate realities.

Ah - good history lesson. They killed up to 14 million, our bombs took out less than 300k. More died over the next 20 years due to exposure/radiation sickness. However, if we were taking the "eye for an eye" approach, then we'd be no better than they were.
