Whole House Fan
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on November 8th, 2016 @ 7:18PM

For 8 years I've suffered where the inside of my house is like 80+ and outside it's like 60/50. It's insane. Right now it's 57 and inside it's 80. I spent $700 one year on a Solar Attic fan and it did jack shit to fix the problem.

I think the solution, which my dad for years has said is a WHOLE HOUSE FAN. Looks like Only $1200-$1600 installed.

I'd bet anything that your dad is right and it would make a huge difference.

I had one when I lived in CO. It was so-so. Humidity wasn't a problem there, is it an issue where you live? I didn't like leaving windows on the bottom floor open (physical security). I think it's worth a shot if you weigh the pros and cons. The operating costs are very low compared to AC.

I have whole house fan and it really does a very nice job when you have such a temperature imbalance like that. You need to mess around with which windows you keep open and which ones you close (always keep at least one window open of course.) It gets to be a little like a game but it really is nice for those days when your house gets heat soaked during the day and the outside air cools way off at night.

I know several people in socal who have them and they're very happy with them. I think you'll like it. I'd get one if I had an attic.
