Stand Desk
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on June 10th, 2015 @ 9:13AM

I made it about 1 min on the desk. But due to the light issues, I don't think I can block out all the lights AND use the stand desk anyways.

They gave us all stand up desks or it lowers to a sit desk. So obviously I'm sitting, duh. Who would stand when they can sit.

Heh, that's awesome! I literally just ordered myself one of those for work.

They're great for people with back pain. Sometimes it's easier to stand than to sit

Those things are expensive.
But they say that you can prolong your life (or die in a bit less pain) if you avoid sitting 8 hours a day for your whole career.

Give it 1or2 30 minute shifts and see how you feel when you get home.

You are seriously not going to give it a whirl? Wootah's idea makes total sense.

Sitting all day can't be good, but if you eat a healthy breakfast, a salad for lunch, take the stairs, exercise out of work, you'll be ok.

I use a stand up desk for the past 2 years. It does take some getting used to, but it is nice in the afternoon when you get the groggy head after lunch and want to nod off. I just stand for a while and feel good again.

Trickshot. Well, in my case, the 'they' is the health consultants that our health insurance provider (DMBA) periodically sends to our workplace (like this thursday they give us $70 back if we submit to blood lipid examinations).

But I know I have seen some actual research, so I went digging and looking through it, this article looks pretty solid:
Sitting Time and Mortality from All Causes,Cardiovascular Disease, and Cancer
DOI: 10.1249/MSS.0b013e3181930355

I have journal access since I work at a university, but if you search the web, the high citation rate (>700) probably means people will be hosting it elsewhere openly.

I got this
http://www.varidesk.com/standing-desk-pro-plus-36. My company wouldn't get real stand-up desks, so this is the next best thing.

i would rather try a swopper. its a chair balanced on a mechanical spring.

keeps your body constantly adapting. feels weird at first but in the end seems to more optimal solution than standing desks to me.
