Onkyo

12/23 - Got my incredible campfire stereo back. It's the same one. This time it all works and I hooked it back up. It works great so far. They sure don't say anything. They don't email or write any note or anything. Not like hey sorry it caught on fire. haha. They don't say they got the stereo, they don't say they are shipping it back. Nothing. It just appears at the door.

Update: I called them, they're going to give me another label to mail it back.

FML: I get the receiver back. Plug it in. I adjusted the speaker level, it pops and CATCHES ON FUCKING FIRE!. Flames fucking shoot out of it inside. I turn it off. Any time I turn it back on. IT CATCHES ON FIRE! We'll see if they blame me or try to fix it.

Original

So we got our fridge fixed. We only lost some stuff in the fridge. We got a new second computer.

Now it's just the stereo. There is a HDMI board in the stereo that fails due to a problem with a chip on the board. You can sorta fix it by blowing a hair dryer on it for about 3-5 mins. Then it powers up fine. But you have to keep doing it. Luckily on page 3-4 of some thread, I found a link to where they offer to fix it free of charge despite it being from 2012 or so. They were super cool. They mailed a box and even mailed a whole roll of packaging tape (WTF). Then I believe they're attempting to give it back to me but Fedex won't drop it off without a signature. We've been without a stereo for weeks now but we mostly are on the computer anyway. No one can play the XBOX though.

yeah what bivrip said--plug in again, snap some photos, then you can send them to onkyo and post them here too!

This is a very interesting set of circumstances Nebu.

I have been on the lookout for a new receiver, but due to my tendancies for being extremely indecisive, it has been a ongoing lookout for nearly 10+ years now..

It was when you first got your Onkyo that I started looking more closely at the brand, alongside others such as Pioneer Elite, Harman Kardon, etc.

After all this time, and considering your most recent experience, I am wondering how do you feel about Onkyo overall? Would you recommend it as a suitable AV receiver?

I use an upper-mid level Onkyo as my standard receiver for my home theater system and am more than happy with it. I've never experienced any issue with it and it works flawlessly every day.
