Obama: Regulate broadband Internet like a utility so it 'works for everyone'
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on November 10th, 2014 @ 10:54AM

Cnet

Either ISPs need to be treated like a utility, or a law needs to be made that prevents content carriers from being content providers. Either way, this sounds like a step in the right direction.

It's sad watching so many lesser developed nations offer exponentially greater bandwidth at far lower prices than the US even though there aren't any physical or economical barriers preventing it. That said, it looks like some municipal communities are banding together to change that and it looks very promising (STORY 1, STORY 2).

About time. Internet is critical infrastructure, like roads. Just imagine if almost all roads were owned by monopolies or near-monopolies with little to no government oversight.

I am not a fan of Obama, in fact I have never voted for a Democrat on the national level, but I think he is right on this one. Comcast, Verizon, Time Warner, and AT&T are the worst companies and I wish there was an alternative that I could chose. I think regulating them to keep the internet a fair playing field is the correct choice.

...well...

Glad that's settled, everyone.

Get Wheeler on the phone, let's get it done!
