| You know, its a good thing I decided to watch the first few minutes of the video before posting.
I thought you were talking about the Mormon War of 1857.

| I was gonna watch them all and then ... only 2 up so far. Oh well. remind us again when the rest are up.
For a short time, I worked with a guy who was raised in the mormon colonies. I always tried to get everything I could out of him. He told me crazy stories of violence... like kids getting mowed down on a basketball court when assassins came to hit a food vendor that was next to the court. Another story... guys running into a hospital with automatic weapons and people getting shot while in a hospital bed by the gunmen because they hadn't died the first time (killing everyone that was visiting them too).

| Well, not to steer this completely off Mormonism but this actually has some parallels to some other recent news stories I've been actually trying to make people aware of (and pardon me, this seems like a perfect place to talk about them, its absolutely on topic).
http://thepiratesofmanhattan.com/
The Pirates of Manhattan is blog and book by Barry James Dyke who has made a serious effort to try to unravel all the corruption in the Banking Industry.
A LOT of his findings are actually tied up in the drug cartels in Mexico and other portions of Latin America. It shows that ALL of the biggest banks in America have their money in the drug cartels on some level.
The biggest way most banks are contributing is by acting as exchanges for drug dealers laundering money. In some of the more extreme (although not wholly uncommon), he finds that many of the big banks actually provide a venue for the drug cartels to bring their money and drugs into the US through, surprisingly enough, things like 747 through standard air ports. One particular story was of a bank forcing Kennedy Airport to allow the landing of an "unauthorized 747 from Mexico" that had nothing in it but drugs.
Mind you, I'm only focusing on one part of this report, there is a ton of other things the US Banks have been caught doing illegally, but its an interesting point related to this topic. |

| I highly recommend this book:
Under the Banner of Heaven.
You learn a decent amount about the history of Mormonism through plot driven story instead of just historical accounts. It goes in depth looking at fundamentalist mormons as well.
Fundie Mormons scare the bajeezus out of me, the grasp that they have over their followers is amazing.
But also, I find fascinating how diverse that church has become, LDS does a lot of work to separate themselves from the fanatics, and I applaud it, but after reading the book and learning how insane some of the leaders were (Brigham-Young...), I almost don't want to reward them after death with a Mormon President.
I know, I know, Mitt isn't one of those Mormons just like a Muslim friend of mine isn't rioting in Australia, and a few friends I grew up with who are Mormon aren't into polygamy.
Great read. |

There are lots and lots of reasons to be against Romney. However, his Mormonism is not one of them. |

That opinion was from the context of reading that book and 'appeasing' previous LDS leaders who dreamed of the Presidency to help further their church and spread its influence. I tried to be clear about it, but I guess I didn't do a good enough job.
I'm not voting for Romney for completely different reasons - like I mentioned above, I have Mormon friends who are great people. I also believe he isn't one of those crazy Fundie Mormons.
However, I don't think anyone could read the book and feel all that great about the history of LDS and how they desired that Presidential position before it split away from most of the radical extremist offshoots. |
