Strangers
Posted by: Nebuchadnezzar on August 31st, 2012 @ 2:09PM

I really don't like strangers. I'm friendly to people at the cash registers but otherwise don't talk to anyone I don't know. I know a ton of people and have collected many people over the years so I don't feel I need to go out and collect new people.

There's just so many people. If someone has some great personality, then I get to know them and might be friends. If they're shy, or never talking programmers, I never say anything to them. One guys been here 1 year and I've never said anything. One girls been there 7 years and we've never spoken on the same floor. You can play the social game and it helps you but who has time for that. Get to know the people that you have time for and that have good personalities, and the rest, only interact with them if you somehow are required to or if they might approach you for some reason.

There's so many people, I just can't catch up. I'll just go years forgetting to talk to people. One guy disappeared from 2006-2012 and I couldn't remember how long he'd been gone. haha. Some people come back for a year before I remember to say welcome back.

At one point I was trying to just do a spreadsheet of everyone and trying to at least talk to everyone, but there's just so much going on, I don't even have time for that.

Lol, I think its kind of funny to see you say this. I knew you somewhat well back in the WC2 days / Diablo 1 hay-day and even met you in person when Pat introduced me to you in 2000 I think I was.

Terrence mentioned previously that you totally forgot who I was till he reminded you back in 2008 shortly before I started there. Save the one music night event in April of 2009 though, I don't think I ever actually ran into you on the campus.

I'm the opposite. I'm super talkative and friendly to everyone around me.

Easier to find victims that way.

I'm much the same way. Outside of work I really don't care who people are. Inside of work I generally tend to introduce myself to new people to see if they need help, so they aren't overwhelmed. I've always had people do that for me and I appreciate it.

It bugs me when people introduce themselves to me. I wonder what the heck it is they want or expect.
