I realize that through proper calculations, everything should go off without a hitch.
But I'm always in awe how scientists are able to so accurately aim a spacecraft like this lander or a satellite towards a destination and hit it in exactly the right spot. Launching Curiosity and having it land in the proper landing location is like sniping someone from 10,000,000 miles away (and probably a few orders of magnitude harder than that)
Successful landing, can't wait for the landing video to come out (I think it was a 10 or 20 fps HD cam they had filming the last part of the sequence).
Watching those folks in the control room made me very proud to be an American, or a member of the human race for that matter. What a tremendous achievement. I'm so happy for all the NASA personnel and contractors who made this happen.
Given the snake bitten nature of previous Mars projects and the complex landing scheme, I had serious reservations that this would work. I'm glad those misgivings were unfounded.
