I don`t think the show has ever really been good. None of the DC shows are all that great overall, they have crap writing, boring plots and the format is repetitive and stale. Plot scene, action scene, character scene, rinse repeat. Gotham is the only one that`s somewhat interesting because it`s trying some different stuff with young Bruce Wayne.

But I think the black guy had always been a black belt or something in some martial arts, it was mentioned at some point. But in general and especially in the earlier seasons the characters all got their fighting chops way too quick. Most of the characters are just badly written and would fluctuate in their motivations just to service the plot. "Oh, Laurel had a glass of wine at dinner so she`s an alcoholic now."

Honestly, this season is one of the better ones, at least with the overall villain plot working for a change. A revenge arc for a villain usually works well, but I can already feel it`s going a bit too far with his being `ten steps ahead of you` kind of uber-ness.

WTF. Since when does the comments sections have S H I T T Y language filters?

IN RESPONSE TO: F the Oscars

BiVRiP I hear the same thing from a good friend of mine about La La Land. He doesn`t understand why it`s so loved. I have yet to see it though.

I had myself a pre-Oscars Mercury missions session with The Right Stuff and Hidden Figures. It was a good time.

My biggest disappointment of the Oscars is Zootopia winning best animated feature. It was okay, but it was just another kind of forgettable kids mostly comedy animation. I was blown away by Kubo and The Two Strings and so pissed it didn`t win. Reminded me of the year Brave somehow beat out Wreck It Ralph.

Wow, you really have no idea do you?

I would like to quote my above message from last November...

"And I even think the ban is basically useless and probably a detriment overall,"

It`s almost as if you either didn`t read what I wrote or you have the reading comprehension of a preschooler.

I was just trying to point out how stupid it is to want to move to a different state because of such trivial shit.

You remind me of the stereotypical soccer mom that complains to a restaurant manager and promises to boycott because her gluten free meal didn`t come with a side of bread like the pasta meal. And then proceeds to get angry when the manager explains that bread has gluten in it.

IN RESPONSE TO: Money Making Schemes

It`s probably better to budget and cut needless spending than to waste time/money chasing `schemes.` You`ll probably end up in a pyramid scheme "Oh but it`s totally legit and not a pyramid scheme, the first FAQ answer explains how it`s not a pyramid scheme."

Do you actually have a written out budget of all your income, debts and expenses (monthly, yearly)? Do you know where your money is going?

It`s always interesting that the same people that are usually very anti-abortion are at the same time anti anything that actually reduces abortion like better access to birth control, better (not abstinence only) sex ed. And also opposed to things that help out the very people who end up with children from their unwanted pregnancies.

It`s really about - punishment for recreational sex, especially for women. They act like they care so much about that precious life inside the mother, at least until it comes out, then it`s on its fucking own.

For that border wall, you will get something, just not the ocean to ocean massive wall that was actually promised. You`ll get just enough that Trump will claim that it got made and people will eat it up. Probably just a few extra fenced areas or upgrades/extensions to current stuff or whatever, maybe just what was already planned in terms of border security upgrades when he arrived in office.

Then there will be some kind of stats as talking points that `prove` the border wall worked because illegal immigration is down, even if it was already going down and the trend just continued, or if it was coincidental, or even if it`s not down at all, they`ll invent their own stats if necessary.

I think you`re getting your panties in a twist over a silly recent buzzword that has caught on. There`s nothing really new going on, media has biases all along the range from farthest left dirty hippie to farthest right RRP with a handful of reasonably unbiased floating around the mid point. The articles and information that the media pumps out on the extremes of both sides contain a lot of false, fabricated, twisted facts or no facts at all.

I think fake news is an apt descriptor, just rejecting it out of hand is kind of stupid. We shouldn`t be trying to make everything so simple and black/white, that`s not what the world is like. People calling everything they don`t agree with `fake news` is stupid. But saying that all the `fake news` is just an attempt to discredit what you already agree with isn`t that different from what those people are doing in the first place. Some `fake news` is aptly described as such and it`s not just stuff that might disagree with your politics. There`s also a ton of just really shitty fluff type news I would certainly call fake, ads masquerading as news that`s fake. There are a lot of non-political agendas being pushed as news that can all earn the same title.

It seems like everyone just wants what they already believe to be confirmed and so they go looking for information to confirm it and reject everything else. Well guess what, in the age of the internet everyone can confirm everything they already agree with because the internet has everything. People will comb through huge amounts of stuff to find the one little tidbit that happens to agree with them and ignore the mountains of information telling them "NO YOU`RE WRONG. IDIOT!" It seems like nobody really gives a shit about finding the truth, because that might risk popping their precious safe space / bubble.

You have to dig into each issue / event from multiple sources and really honestly try to look at it from a different perspective and search for what`s true not what`s comforting. Don`t just go into your echo chamber and let them drop a deuce down your throat. Why the hell do you think a bunch of us keep coming here...

Oh and that Pizzagate stuff sounds like grade A bullplop.

    IN RESPONSE TO: Today's Politics

I don`t doubt the safe spaces stuff is real, but I have a feeling it`s blown out of proportion and is much more rare, especially the extreme cases you hear about, than we expect.

Although I will say that in my years of University back in the late 90s early 2000s, there was definitely an increase in `protection` for students from what I considered ridiculous things. Mostly in the direction of eradicating alcohol not by actually banning it, but by discouraging certain types of parties, and not allowing officially serving alcohol at dorm functions, not allowing upperclassmen to drink during orientation week, stuff like that. I don`t know what it`s like now, but hopefully it hasn`t gotten too bad, the whole point of allowing it (even underagers) on campus was so the freshmen would have older students around just in case. Better to get smashed with lots of people around in a supervisory capacity than to go to a random house party off campus because that`s the only place you can get drunk.

There was also a big crack down on both actual hazing (good) and non-hazing, what i would call bonding, activities as well. Some of the bonding activities I remember not being allowed to do included things like, having the freshmen leap frog down to the cafeteria for lunch (i shit you not) and pretty much anything else that could be embarrassing even if they actively wanted to do it, even if we as upperclassmen also participated and even if we specifically told them at the time and also at the beginning of the week, that if they ever felt uncomfortable doing anything or participating in any activity they were always able to opt out, no questions asked.

ivehadnoduisforthreeweeks, You`re moving out of state because of a plastic bag ban? Well, not even a ban really, a small extra surcharge on them if you want them. Not to mention you`re paying for those bags already anyway in the cost of your groceries, this is just meant to be a visible cost to incentivize people towards a less wasteful option (whether or not it`s truly less wasteful is debatable). OH THE HORROR! FLEE THE STATE!

I find that kind of hilariously mind boggling. You know I had been considering moving to a different province because my trash collection changed days, it`s a pretty serious issue. But then I realized that would be a stupid thing to do over something so small.

It`s just so fucking stupid. And I even think the ban is basically useless and probably a detriment overall, but moving out of state? Holy sweet shit you are overly dramatic.

Gave up on 12 monkeys too, actually I ditched a bunch of shows as I just had too many to watch and I`ve kind of raised the bar on quality of what I`ll keep watching. I used to never stop watching a show that I`d started, but nuts to that pointless loyalty. Dumped Fear the Walking Dead too, Criminal Minds a few year ago now, Sleepy Hollow, bunch of other stuff I can`t remember.

I like the first couple episodes of Westworld, great cast and production value as is always the case with HBO. I`ll be interested to see how this version unfolds.

Earlier this summer I was stuck behind a slow moving tractor on a rural road along with an ever increasing line of cars. There were occasional passing areas on the road but there happened to always be oncoming traffic so nobody managed to pass. Just about the time we were getting to the next town and the speed limit was slowing, one of the cars in the pack seemed to have enough and pulled out into the other lane and.... turned on his blue and red lights and pulled over the tractor while everyone else finally got to go by. I still wonder if he got ticketed for not pulling over and letting the congestion pass since he was holding up such a large amount of cars for a pretty long time.
